All Music Guide calls pianist/vocalist Alex Leonard, “an important mainstay of the Big Apple”,  the theater magazine Show Business writes, “superb piano playing... a class act”.

 

The Bistro Bits column of the Bistro Awards writes, “his vocal is so tender, so touching... his playing throughout is marked with uncommon grace” and in an album critique Jazz Review comments, “Alex Leonard is one of the finest jazz pianists performing today”.

 

Alex has been featured in venues from Manhattan to Las Vegas, Europe and Japan. He has performed on stages such as Lincoln Center's Rose Hall, The Bruno Walter Auditorium, Joe's Pub, Below 54, The Cutting Room, The Smith Center and Off-Broadway at the Soho Playhouse.

 

He has performed in an array of clubs, festivals and cruises around the world including the Cabaret Series at the National Arts Club in Manhattan, The Lake Club in Zurich, Club Uraku in Tokyo, Foxwood's Resort and Casino, Harrah's in Atlantic City and The Tropicana in Las Vegas, Chandris and Royal Caribbean cruise lines as well as innumerable private events in grand locations such as The Four Seasons, Cipriani, Cafe Carlyle, Algonquin Hotel and Rainbow Room.

 

Academically, he holds a Graduate Degree from the City University of New York including an award for Outstanding Scholarly Achievement. While in college he studied under musical greats John Lewis, Ron Carter and the legendary vocal coach, Carlo Menotti.

 

Alex has applied his love and knowledge of the Great American Songbook and jazz into musical presentations in spaces such as New York University's Casa Zerilli-Marimo, Arcadia University in Pennsylvania and the City University of New York including a televised presentation on the program “Italics”. Through the years he has also been a featured guest on Bloomberg Radio's “The Business of Show Business”.
