Watch Matthew Davidson
Fourteen-year-old guitarist/vocalist Matthew Davidson from Shreveport, LA is "wowing audiences across the South", according to American Blues News. Matthew was the 2011 winner of the Robert Johnson Blues Foundation New Generation Award. “His style was advanced for his age,” said Steven Johnson, Robert’s grandson and vice president of the Robert Johnson Blues Foundation. “It was crisp; it was professional. His style with that electric guitar was amazing. I know Matthew will be a great ambassador for the Foundation”.

"Matthew Davidson has been playing guitar for about six years. It looks like 16 when you see him play." ~Kidd Kraddick, host of nationally syndicated radio show "Kidd Kraddick in the Morning".

Rock, blues, pop/rock...you name it - he can play it!

Matthew got his first toy guitar at the age of 3, and he hasn't stopped playing since! He started taking weekly lessons on an acoustic guitar in the second grade and won his first electric guitar in the 2007 James Burton Guitar Showdown.  He was the youngest of eight student guitarists selected to play with Kenny Wayne Shepherd at his 2009 Artbreak Concert. Matthew performed in the Youth Showcase at the 2011 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN and while there jammed at the B. B. King Blues Club. He also was selected to perform in the “Texas 10 under 20 Showcase” at the Dallas International Guitar Festival. He has played at the B.B. King Museum and the B.B. King Homecoming Concert in Indianola, MS and the Delta Blues Fest in Greenville, MS. He has performed at The Strand Theatre, Rock 'N' Bowl in New Orleans and on the stage of the legendary Municipal Auditorium, home of the famed Louisiana Hayride.

Matthew was selected to be the guitarist for the 2011 “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning” Rock Camp Band. The week-long camp was held in July at the Kidd Kraddick studio in Irving, Texas. Four young musicians were selected from a group of over 300 applicants. During the camp, the band, named Breaking Even, composed an original song which was professionally recorded, created a music video, and performed live on the air on Kidd Kraddick in the Morning, which is a nationally syndicated radio show. The single recorded by the band, “You Won’t Admit”, is available on iTunes. Breaking Even performed with Patrick Stump at his Dallas House of Blues concert.

Matthew's musical taste was largely acquired from listening to his dad's CD collection of rock music by The Beatles, Eric Clapton,Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Other influences include Maroon 5 and John Mayer.

Matthew has had the honor of sharing the stage with Joe Osborn, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Honeyboy Edwards, Brady Blade, Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy and Robin & The Bluebirds. Matthew is the youngest member to date of the American Federation of Musicians Local 116, having joined at the age of twelve.

Matthew’s 4-piece band, The Matthew Davidson Band, made their debut on June 25, 2010 and they are quite a sensation in Louisiana and surrounding states. They were selected as one of the top five bands for 2011-2012 in Shreveport-Bossier by a survey of thousands of residents at LocalsLoveUs.com. They were a hit at The King Biscuit Blues Festival and The State Fair of Louisiana, as well as at the House of Blues Dallas! Their ever-growing list of festival performances includes: New Orleans Jazz Fest, Holiday in Dixie, AlleyFest in Longview, East Texas State Fair in Tyler,KTBS 3 Independence Day Festival, and The T-Bone Walker Blues Fest in Linden, TX. They headlined the 2011 Mississippi Blues Marathon in Jackson, MS and performed in the Krewe of Centaur Mardi Gras Parade.
